A new scam
hello everyone there is a new scam on the block (at least new to me) i recently ran in grp with an individual who seemed nice and knowledgable about gw. he told me that he was starting a new forum site and asked me to stop in and check out his site and tell him what i thought., so i go to the site and i have to create a profile for the site. this is where the fun begins. . . at this point i believe i became infected with a key logger.
with in 20 mins i had lost my guildwars account password was changed, the email that i had used to set up my gw account with was deleated, and so was the email that i used to report this incident to the support crew.
i have since recreated a email account and resubmitted my report to support and i am currrently taking the steps to remedy my problems.
i just wanted to give a heads up cuz this was a new scam to me, and kinda get some feed back from you guyz as to what i can/sould do now to both fully recover the integrity of my comp and also help to prevent this from happening again
thx

Unless you downloaded something, it is more likely that he assumed that you have the same password and email in GW, as you would when you made an account for his site.

Never use the same information.
Good luck! And hopefully you know his IGN to report it to Anet.

Sounds about right. I find it works to have 3 sets of passwords: One for games, one for Forums, and one for email. It keeps abusive admins from doing exactly what was done to you.

Yep, be sure to report the site to ANet and the fact that your account was stolen.

You know what? That's totally unnecessary. I bet if that happened to you, you'd be just as upset. That's called trolling and jackassery.
Drego- good luck with getting your account back.

If your going to make fun of others, try to not make yourself look like an idiot.
Passwords shouldnt be the same as others.
Unlike my 10 or more battle.net accounts.

My battlenet account password is . Literally space space space. I dont care, go ahead and hack it, if you find out my name. All I do is occasionally play DotA.
For the OP, that sucks man.

Heeeey lookee that another DotA fan...well occasionally.
Stopped that game a few months ago since I started Guild Wars.
I swear, that game sucked the life out of me over the course of 8 months.
Easily played 500 full games, not including leavers and such.
Thank god I got over it.
Possible the most addictive game I've ever played.

DotA = Defense of the Ancients.
Its a custom map for the Warcraft 3 game.
Don't start, its hard to stop.
Its kinda like a skirmish game (I think).
Each game has 2 sides (Scourge and Sentinel) with a maximum of 5 players a side.
Victory is based on which side's throne is destroyed first.
You get to choose from 50 (?) heroes and each hero has its own combination of skills.
Or you could play it the way which is most fun, -AR (stands for all random).
The amount of whining and bitching in that game is just...*shudder*
Some people just can't handle a loss.

I love the scam posts [read: how stupid am I posts].
Like, "hey check out this scam, I bought a crystalline sword for $3893487 gp and the guy removed the Crystalline Sword and put in a presear sword. I saw him modify his offering but didn't think to mouse over it again, duh.
Again, this one isnt so bad until you assume that you must have either downloaded a dumb prog (duh) or used the same login/pass as your GW account (double duh).
Keep up the good laughs guys. I'm enjoying them.
BTW IGN is Irongate N Zealand <-- come scam me duh, duh,

Huh, someone beat me to it.
People have been spamming web sites in GW since forever. Some are legit fansites, and many are trying to scam you. Myself, I just stick here and a few other sites that I already know about. I give out my e-mail sparingly.

That is a great tip!
I use different passwords, but not like this way. should save some unnecessary passwords.
